Welcome to Polden Bower School
I would like to welcome you to Polden Bower School, a brand new state of the art special school on the edge of Bridgwater. I hope that you find what you are looking for on our website.
Polden Bower opened its doors in May 2021 after 4 years of design and build work. The school was built to bring additional specialist capacity to the town of Bridgwater and the surrounding areas within Sedgemoor. The school has been formed by bringing together a small Federation of two schools - Penrose primary school and Elmwood secondary school, both special schools.
Polden Bower caters for children and young people from 4 years to 19 years who have an Education, Health and Care Plan.
I am very proud to be the Executive Headteacher of Polden Bower, we have a team of very dedicated and passionate staff who work hard for every student and strive for excellence in everything that they do.
I am also proud of our students and how hard they work to overcome the barriers to their learning and development.
Polden Bower works in partnership with The Bridge School, Sedgemoor and from 1 September, 2021 Polden Bower will be in a Hard Federation with Avalon School in Street. The three schools work very closely together and the partnership ensures the sharing of resources, facilities and expertise.
We welcome visitors to Polden Bower School, if you would like to visit the school or have any questions about our work, please contact the school reception on the contact details below.

A message from the Heads of School
We would like to welcome you to Polden Bower School, we work very closely together to ensure that all students have the very best education and care.
We are very proud of our new school based on Bower Lane in Bridgwater, the new facilities are amazing to support our students' development and learning. The school is built to enable gradual transitions as students grow and develop from Early years to Post 16.
We are a Rights Respecting School and we teach our children and young people about their rights and responsibilities. We focus our education on the adult our children will become, working hard on developing independence and skills for adult life.
Our new Centre for Independence for sixth form students has a focus on vocational learning and employability skills and we aim for as many of our students as possible moving into paid or voluntary employment when they finally leave school or college.
We look forward to welcoming you to Polden Bower School.
Kat Burgess & Andrew Laurence
At Polden Bower School we are committed to the welfare and safeguarding of our students.  We expect all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment.
